December 2020 Wrap Up!

                         December Wrap Up

Our Junior Achievement programs are finally up and running! We have been able to enroll our students in the JA BizTown and JA Finance Park courses so that they can begin their studies in Financial Literacy. JA BizTown teaches the youth about Community, Economics, Teamwork, Financial Literacy, Work Readiness, Business Management, Entrepreneurship, & Philanthropy. JA Finance Park teaches our youth all aspects of personal finance including learning about balancing a family budget, interest rates, how education affects their earning potential, and how saving today can affect their future. They have virtual simulations on utilizing banking services, purchasing housing, transportation, insurance, furnishings, health care, and other expenses, as well as making investment decisions. They will have the entire semester to navigate through these programs.

December was also our yearly Kwanzaa Celebration, but this time, virtually. BHCFL youth wore proudly their African garments and BHCFL shirts while reciting the history of Kwanzaa and the meaning of each of the seven principles. The program also included a video presentation of our past Kwanzaas.  Kwanzaa worksheets and coloring pages were shared with each family as they celebrated at their own households.

BHCFL’s Lending Library was able to gift laptop computers to all of the children that checked out computers for the semester. This is a way for us to ensure that all of our children have the necessary equipment available to them to excel in their schoolwork.

Many thanks to all of those that helped us purchase all of the necessary items for our Science Club and Art Club bags for our youth. We were able to supply each participant with bags of supplies for their upcoming classes from January- May 2021 as we get together virtually for classes and experiments during the school year.
